Using Nokia 770 as a wireless remote?

SlimDevices SqueezeboxThe discussion on Engadget regarding new SlimDevices Squeezebox prompted some readers to bring in Nokia 770 comparison:

This looks like an awesome alternative to the Sonos. The Sonos has the nifty LCD remote, but you can buy the upcoming Nokia 770 PDA with 802.11 to fulfill the same function. Also, if you already have a home stereo receiver, you are wasting some money with the Sonos because the base unit comes with an amp. Finally, this Squeezebox has optical output, which the Sonos does not have.

I have a webserver at home that runs XMMS (for MP3s) plus mplayer for audio stuff (esp RealAudio). I’ve written a Perl CGI script to control it and I’m looking forward to using that web applet on the N770.

The good thing is that I’ve got a short-range FM transmitter connected to the audio-out of the web server, so I can also listen to any audio anywhere around the house - all I have to do is tune a radio to the right frequency. Being able to control it using the wifi-enabled N770 will be fantastic.
