Nokia 770 2006 OS review
Monday June 12th 2006, 1:38 am Category: Nokia 770 reviews

Bowie J. Poag wrote in to mention he wrote a rather detailed Nokia 770 Internet Tablet 2006 OS review. Quite a few details, and you can tell Bowie went into all the details:

Figure this one out. Taking a normal, 512×512 JPEG and making it your background on the desktop takes an unusually long time.. But bringing it up in the image viewer doesn’t take long at all. It was slow on previous versions, but seems even worse now. What gives?

The nokia 770 renders a subtle drop shadow on the background before showing it. This takes some time.

I am a developer for the device, can you tell me where I can get the 2006 beta?

I keep reading that the 2006 edition is due out in the second quarter of 2006. By my calculations there are four days left in the second quarter, has anyone seen any signs of the upgrade appearing?

The 2006 official upgrade was for a while available at http://www.europe.nokia.com/A4144790 today, but now they have reverted back to the old Apr 18 release page.

This was the final nail in the coffin for my 770, which as of now is the most expensive door stopper I ever owned.

I can’t believe you losers still support this device.

Now that it is out for real, how does one install it from Linux instead of MS-Windows with Net-crap/WGA/etc?
