Going to NokiaUSA.com/770 and clicking Buy! now generates the following message:
Dear Nokia Customer,
Current orders for the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet are not expected to be fulfilled before December 2005. Orders are filled in the order received. Your credit card will not be charged until your product is available for shipment. We will also send you a Shipment Notification email at that time so you can track your order.
I got a friend in the states to order me one. Supposedly to ship to him on the 17th but I guess that didn’t happen. I never did actually receive an email from Nokia saying they were available despite signing up for email updates ages ago. Did anyone receive one? Doesn’t look like they are having the smoothest product release really
Comment by Simon 11.18.05 @ 9:00 amI ordered mine Tuesday the 15th for which Nokia claimed a Nov. 17 (today) ship date…..a check of my order shows no shipment yet though. I signed up for their email list thingy 3 times over the past few months, but I’ve never received any email from them. Meanwhile, the Belkin pre-n wireless router and 1GB RS-MMC card will be here tomorrow……I think I’ll just leave them in the box for now….
Comment by Ben 11.18.05 @ 11:03 amI called Nokia today 17th Nov. 2005
They said they haven’t recieved them yet?????
I placed my order on the 14th. My shipment status has not changed, so I called…
They said NO ORDERS that were placed have been shipped yet. The first orders (no number given) will be shipped on Monday, November 21 or Tuesday November 22. Orders placed after the first “round” of unites go out will have to wait longer.
So, if you were on of the first to order online, you *should* get it by mid week next week.

Comment by JC 11.18.05 @ 1:34 pmOK, so I added my e-mail address to the Nokia 770 “update” list back in….sheez…I can’t recall, it was ages ago. Never received any message. Now, distribution in December? Geez….by then, the “coolness” of this item will be gone and five other products will have trumped the 770’s capabilities. DUMB! I’ll bet the Marketing PM and Tech Lead for this project are having a nice quarrel at Nokia right now.
Comment by Thomas 11.18.05 @ 1:57 pmI don’t know where I am in the list of people who bought it. I hope they don’t cancel my order. (I did call and confirm that it had gone into backorder status the day I bought it.) While I was hoping that the 770 would ship the 17th, I would be really pissed if they cancel the people on backorder status and not send an e-mail out to notify them.
The “coolness factor” wasn’t the reason I bought it. I think this will fit the nitch that I’ve been looking for at my work. As a system admin, (I’m hoping) I’ll be able to test the coverage of wi-fi, keep a running log of things that need to be done, have a personal calendar, check my e-mail, use gaim, log into servers, test the network, etc. It already appears to have the capabilities to do just that, with more products that will be developed for it as things move along!
What other products do you see coming out that are linux based, have built in wi-fi/bluetooth, and have some form of expansion? I’m all for checking out new products but this is the ONLY one that I’ve seen besides sharp’s Zaurus which had minimal launch support and costs twice as much and got canned before I even could get the cash together to get one…
I think the potential user base for this device is huge and the fact that it’s already out sold their initial estimated orders makes me happy.
Then again, I doubt I’ll ever be cool carrying around a linux based-not-quite-pda/phone…

Thomas, tell me what five products are coming out that will have capabilities that “trump” the 770 in December? If so, I’ll cancel my order now so I can evaluate my options. Personally I’m not ordering this product because it’ll be “cool” for a month.
Comment by Ed 11.19.05 @ 4:36 amI called them friday and they said they haven’t recieved any orders, apparently Trenton(Nokia) made that up. The warehouse still hasn’t recieved any of the units, that was of November 18th, 2005
Comment by charlie 11.19.05 @ 11:24 pmIt’s almost as if they’ve never launched a product before. They have a list for email updates, but you never get emails. They have it for sale to ship on the 17th. But no products to sell. No email to tell you your order won’t ship when promissed. No indication of when you might get the product (some time in December?)
All this after a two month delay in the release anyway. I really don’t understand how they could botch things this bad. All the same, I bought mine, so maybe it won’t hurt them. Who knows…

Comment by Tim 11.20.05 @ 12:13 amYou have to remember this is probably handled completely differently to the Nokia phone sales. It’s a new thing for them. But yes, you would think they would have someone, somenwhere at Nokia who knows what to do. The launch in Europe didn’t go this badly did it. They are quite happily being shipped units now?
Comment by Simon 11.20.05 @ 3:59 amMaybe the European launch went ok in those few countries where they’d bothered to launch it, but the rest of us are stuck. I emailed Nokia in my own country where asked a simple question of future availability, and got back the most stupid response where they just repeated my own words. I asked again with questions so simple that they could answer with a few yes/no, even that were a bit difficult for them but the essence was: 1) It’s not going to be sold in my (European) country, and 2) It’s not possible in any way to get a version for some other country through Nokia Direct. Talk about business sense!
Comment by Tor 11.21.05 @ 5:21 pmHas anyone, that ordered the 14/15th, received their 770? Can anyone even find if their’s has shipped. I just called order support and they said that it was backordered when I ordered it — which is not what the system said — it did say “Available”.
They are now saying 2-3 weeks for the shipment to come in. I don’t think order support has any idea at all about what is going on.
Not very confidence inspiring.
Comment by jlh 11.22.05 @ 2:52 amWhat sucks is that, like a dummy, I went for the 3day shipping. I called back to change it to 1 day, but they said that updating the order would send it to the bottom of the waiting list.
i screamed “Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo” into the phone and told them not to touch the order. I’ll deal with the crappy 3day fedex.
One thing I hate about 3day fex- they actually won’t deliver it earlier, even if they have it around. Where as UPS will sometimes deliver 3day in 2days.
Comment by andy 11.22.05 @ 3:10 amIt appears there are two different responses on orders placed 14th, 15th, they say “Open Order” while those that ordered 16th and later are getting the “Backorder” notice……
Comment by Bud Olivares 11.22.05 @ 4:40 amAh yes- I see that has changed. I ordered on the 15th, in the morning EST, and my online status reports:
Order status: Order is open
So perhaps there is hope that something is moving thru the system, very slowly.
Comment by andy 11.22.05 @ 5:30 amMy local Compusa has 20 of these tablets….NOKIA SHAME ON YOU..SELLING ONLINE FOR $309 AFTER COUPON…NO WAIT, DON’T FILL THOSE ONLINE ORDERS!! WE CAN SELL ‘UM AT COMP USA FOR $399…SHAME ON NOKIA!
Comment by Bud Olivares 12.05.05 @ 1:42 amDammit I gotta say it I work for Nokia and believe it or not. Us poor uninformed CS reps don’t know crap about the device, yet we take the abuse for not knowing when if or anything about the shipping status we know that we are told and believe it or not our supers only know as much as we do so PLEASE stop calling us with that crap, whining that you want your order you want free shipping, you want me to do handstands, to bring the troops home WE CAN”T DO IT!!!!! you all knew that you were making preorders PRE ORDERS!!!!! meaning when we have then you will get them but til then cut us some slack we don’t know nor do we want to hear you telling us what Nokia should or should not have done. we are Reps NOT the powers that be so stop clowning!!!!
Comment by misty 12.09.05 @ 9:00 amBefore you customers stop blaming us for NOT Having the Internet Tablet you guys need 2 read the TERMS AND CONDITION on our website at www.nokiausa.com and know that all ORDERS will go on a Verification Mode and it can take up to 24h-72h for VERIFICATION. & Pre-order Means ITS NOT AVAVAILBLE YOU can place an order on backorder and when its realeased it will be fullfilled. Seems like we are dealing with children, Customers are adults not kids, and why complain becuase ur CREDIT CARD is not even Charged until the Order has been shipped. SO WHY COMPLAIN, UGH its the HOLIDAYS GET A GRIP and SMILE becuase if the 770 Internet Tablet is not available its just not AVAILABLE and it will not BE SHIPPED. SO STOP Complaing and GET OVER IT ! becuase after all YOU CANNOT HAVE IT UR WAY !
Comment by Juan Pablo 12.10.05 @ 2:30 amI ordered one on 19 Dec and it shipped on 30 Dec. It’s in transit and should be delivered by 4 Jan. I’m not really familiar with Linux, so I will be checking here often for pro’s and con’s of both the 770 and Linux.
