Friday November 18th 2005, 1:18 am Category: Nokia 770 development

Joaquim Azevedo ported VNC Viewer to Nokia 770.

$ wget http://ln-slack-maemo.sourceforge.net/LN-VNC-Maemo-0.1.tar.gz

[sbox-SDK_PC: ~] > fakeroot

# tar xzvf LN-VNC-Maemo-0.1.tar.gz -C /

now make a link:

[sbox-SDK_PC: ~/osso-maemopad] > ln -s /usr/share/applications/hildon/VNCviewer.desktop \
/etc/others-menu/2200_tana_fi_extras/0113_VNCviewer.desktop

-goto www.maemo.org
-read the beginning of the tutorial
-now you know what to do:
install a ARM target on your scratchbox, compile the tar.gz within and dpkg-buildpackage it.
now your have your own fresh arm.deb

This is a much better VNC client implementation for the 770: http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog#head-13a1a000b7010518abcdcf9ec1ce3f4af4f39c44

I installed Maemo SDK on Ubuntu, to test Nokia 770 before buying it. I would like to know if the measured performances are a function of the machine host, or if they reflect the performances of the 770 well.

Indeed, Vncviewer is very fast in Wifi G. I would like to know if the 770 really behaves like that.

Yeah, I just tried it over Wifi to a new Dual Core Mac Mini. Performance is useless. Screen update takes ~10-15 secs.
A Mac laptop running VNC shows instant updates.

Maybe the VNC isn’t optimised?
