TeeSee is the man for posting the tip here.
Go to NokiaUSA.com/770 and add Nokia 770 to your cart. When prompted for log in, either log in, or create a new account and then move on. Turn off any popu blocker you have. That would include Google Toolbar, Yahoo! Toolbar, MSN Toolbar, A9 Toolbar or whatever, since all of them include some kind of popup-blocking functionality. In fact, turn off your toolbars and clear out IE cache. Go to the checkout page where you are prompted for the credit card information, and then close the browser.
Oh, yeah, and use IE or some other popup-friendly browser, since Firefox fights popups to death, and sometimes you won’t know what killed it. Don’t have Microsoft Internet Explorer? Get it here (can’t believe I am writing this).
A little pop up window will appear admonishing you to stick with Nokia for a complimentary $50 off coupon for this order. Two buttons - No thanks and Checkout. At this point you know what to do. The $50 off coupon code shows up in your basket, so the total price is reduced by $50, and sales tax (if applicable) applies to $319.99. Happy purchasing.
Update: See Scott’s comment below on what to do when the coupon doesn’t show up.
[…] How a little bit of prancing around the site can get you fabulous $50 discount. […]
Pingback by Nokia770Blog » $50 retention coupon from NokiaUSA 11.16.05 @ 12:44 amnokia also has free shipping on orders of $50 or more so my price was $309.99.
Comment by Someone 11.16.05 @ 2:10 amCan’t get the coupon to show up? When you are in the checkout page just pull up the source and you’ll see a URL for “Cart Reminder”, copy/paste the URL and hey presto= you’ll get the page offering $50 off
Comment by Scott 11.16.05 @ 2:32 amPlaced order won’t go past this.
Processing Order
Thank you.
We are processing your order. You will receive confirmation in just a few seconds. Thank you for waiting.
Nothing else happens.
Comment by Scott C 11.16.05 @ 3:22 amWow, it takes really long to go thru, like 5 minutes. Just wait awhile.
Comment by Scott C 11.16.05 @ 3:27 amWell, the price is $309.99 + TAXES
(but it’s still cheaper than the regulat price).
Only problem, my order doesn’t want to go through. I wait and wait and wait and wait and then I get to a page saying that I have to start all over again (I hope at this point I didn’t sign up for 5 770s instead of one
Comment by Raff 11.16.05 @ 3:54 amCool, that worked, but they screwed me out of $3. The apply tax to the $359.99, come up with a new total and then take off $50. That sounds illegal to me.
Comment by wantmy3dollars 11.16.05 @ 4:03 amWell.. I bit the dust and ordered! Got the $50.00 off coupon and ordered a car charger too…The $50.00 off worked for me this way… go through the whole process…including REVIEW ORDER.. then hit the back button for your browser and the $50.00 off coupon pops up.. you have to turn off your pop-up blocker.. awesome…so for $13.00 more I get a Nokia 770 instead of a Palm T/X ! I ordered the car charger separate.
Comment by Mark 11.16.05 @ 4:07 amHmm, for some reason, I couldn’t get the popup coupon to activate when I used Safari on OS X, even though I disabled popup blocking. So instead, I tried MS Internet Exploiter, and that worked.
Oddly, even though I had specified overnight FedEx shipping, it reverted to free 3-day FexEx shipping.
I called Nokia to change this on my order, which they happily changed for me, but then said they couldn’t guarantee Friday delivery, so I kindly asked them to change it back to free 3-day shipping.
They said the total that would be billed on my credit card was $307.49. I live in Massachusetts. I’m not sure how $359.99 + tax - $50 = $307.49, but that’s what they said.
Comment by Todd 11.16.05 @ 4:12 amI think it doesn’t work anymore…
Comment by Joe 11.16.05 @ 4:55 amI ordered mine earlier today. If you allow popups from nokiausa.com in Firefox, you get the coupon. Once you sign in with a login, and it prompts you for your credit card info, start browsing elsewhere. That will make the coupon come up. Can’t wait to get mine!
Comment by MK 11.16.05 @ 5:06 amFigures. Ordered mine this morning, just saw this now. Anybody else notice that they were not actually in stock? mine said it will be in on the 17th. Not a long wait, just wondering if anybody else noticed that?
Comment by Marcus 11.16.05 @ 5:58 am[…] The Linux powered Nokia 770 is now available in USA and we’ve been talking about this baby since 1st June 2005. Nokia lovers can get the Nokia 770 for $359.99 at NokiaUSA.com but thanks to my friend’s tip at Nokia770, you’ll save USD 50 when you use Internet Explorer to purchase it. I want one for Christmas too ! […]
Pingback by » Nokia 770 Available in USA The Gadget Blog: Gadget News, Gadget Reviews, Gadget Tech Specs. 11.16.05 @ 7:51 amMy bad, I got greedy and tried to get the $10 RCOUP as well, which won’t work.
Comment by Joe 11.16.05 @ 8:39 amThanks! I just ordered one with free FedEx 3Day shipping to Honolulu, Hawaii. $359.99 + 14.40 tax - $50 discount (code SC09COUP) = $324.39.
I used firefox and viewed the html source on Checkout Step 2 (Credit Card & Billing Information) to see the URL that the cart_reminder
javascript function would popup up. Paste that into the location bar of a new browser window and you’ll be presented with the offer with two choices: “NO THANKS” or “CHECKOUT”. Select “CHECKOUT” and you’ll now see the $50 discount reflected in your shopping cart.
I ordered my 770 yesterday before I heard about the $50 discount. I called Nokia today (, option #1) and asked for the discount. They told me I would need a code to get a discount. I gave them the SC09COUP code and they successfully applied the discount.
Comment by Will 11.16.05 @ 9:58 pmAny bets on when these will actually arrive?
If they’re “available” on Thursday, and Nokia’s verification step takes 24-48 hours, then can we expect them to actually be shipped on Friday, or Monday? Since next week is a 3-day week in the U.S., and they’re offering 3-day FedEx delivery, I’m worried that if they’re shipped on Monday (Nov 21), it won’t actually arrive until the following Monday (Nov 28)!
Comment by Todd 11.16.05 @ 11:15 pmI ordered online for $359 on 11/15/05. After I placed the order, I recieved confirmation that my order was processed and the 770 was “backordered”. On 11/16/05, I called the 1-800 Nokia number (and got a rep on the line rather quickly - cudos to Nokia!) and asked them to cancel the order. She did gladly. Then, a short while later, I went back to the website and re-ordered the product with the $50 coupon code. This time, the confirmation e-mail that was sent to me also had the 770 backordered, but for $50 less. I can’t wait to “browse from bed” without the heavy notebook burning up my thighs!.
Comment by Thomas 11.17.05 @ 3:52 amThanks to “TeeSee” for saving me $50! Booya!
I had already clicked the Add to Cart button when it ocurred to me I outta check the forum in case of any new developments when I ran across this post.
Also thanks to the post by “wantmy3dollars”
After turning off popup blocker and I reached the REVIEW ORDER screen, I hit backspace and up popped the coupon.
Here is what I was charged:
Nokia 770 Internet Tablet (770-IT)
Salvage 09 Coupon (SC09COUP) See discount below
Sub Total: $359.99
Tax: $32.40
FedEx 3 Day shipping: $0.00
Total Discount: -$50.00
Grand Total: $342.39
Yeah, it’s kinda lame that they deducted the $50 AFTER taxes were added. I’ll grumble a little, but what the heck, I’m glad to get a substantial discount.
FYI: Below is the text I relating to taxes from the order pages. Unfortunately where I live, sales tax is 9%(low property taxes..). Hey, I thought Congress extended the no-tax Internet rules…??
The tax code is so complicated, it must be proof that it was created by a divine power!
————————————–
“The amount of sales tax calculated on your order form is an estimate. The actual amount of tax charged to your credit card may vary. Exact charges for your Nokia Mobile Phones and Accessories order will be calculated based on your shipping address, and you will receive an e-mail confirmation when your order is shipped.”
“Sales tax applies if your order is shipped to Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, as well as the District of Columbia. Due to frequent tax law changes and corresponding updates provided by our third-party tax database tracker, the amount of tax shown on this order page is an estimate. Your actual tax charges may vary. Exact charges for your Nokia Mobile Phones and Accessories order will be calculated based on your shipping address, and you will receive an e-mail confirmation when your order is shipped.”
Comment by Ima Pseudonym 11.17.05 @ 5:40 amInteresting… I tried the “look for URL in source” trick, and it did work - except i now got a Nokia 6670(!!) in my cart in stead of the 770! I have never even been on the website before, so i have no idea why it randomly put that one into my cart.
Comment by Fredrik 11.17.05 @ 12:51 pmWhen I go to the site, Nokiausa.com/770, I CAN’T find the ‘add to cart’ feature–Under ‘Buy it’ it takes me to the newsletter signup.
Am I missing something???
Bottom line–HOW do I buy this!?!
Comment by David 11.17.05 @ 7:39 pmI noticed that the Nokia USA site has stopped taking orders. They are showing the “coming soon” screen again. Not sure what that means…I’ll leave the wild speculation up to others.
Comment by Nelsonic 11.17.05 @ 10:25 pm1. Thanks for the kudos, everyone, but I wouldn’t have known about the codes were it not for several others on this list (and I’d name them but I can’t remember them) who pointed out that there *were* these discounts.
2. It means that NokiaUSA is sold out. Sorry folks. A rumor (by someone in another thread) says that some 800+ preorders won’t be filled “in the first batch”, but nobody knows who they are or what percentage of people will have to wait longer. But it means that until further notice, Nokia isn’t accepting any orders. Here’s hoping that all of us who placed orders will be lucky.
3. No, Ms. (Mr.?) Pseudonym, the tax code is proof of evolution in action — nothing that complicated could ever have come from a design, intelligent or otherwise.
Comment by TeeSee 11.18.05 @ 2:08 amThe Nokia site now shows backordered until Dec 14 2005. Bummer.
Comment by Nelsonic 11.18.05 @ 5:35 amI am getting pop-ups for $10 off, but not $50. Also, there is no cart_reminder reference in the source for the Checkout page (that I could find with “Find”). Has Nokia finally wised up to the con?
Comment by You 11.23.05 @ 4:19 amI am not getting pop up window in IE and Firefox.
I also tried “When you are in the checkout page just pull up the source and you’ll see a URL for “Cart Reminder”, copy/paste the URL and hey presto= you’ll get the page offering $50 off” but do I pull up the source.
Any Hints? Thanks
–pravin
They are back in stock now, but no coupon that I could find.
