Nokia USA sold out: official
Thursday November 10th 2005, 7:34 am Category: Nokia 770 news

Nokia USA is officially sold out. They never officially supported the November 10th date, it was always a rumor, there was a small shipment of units in the United States, available on Web site for less than an hour some time this week, and currently they are sold out.

Normal restocking time for Nokia store is 2-4 weeks, but seeing how this is a new model, they might restock sooner, so check the Web site.

We must have talked to two different reps. I am glad if mine was wrong.

they say all the info on the internet is false

A bit of an overstatement, don’t you think?

All information on the Internet is false, including this sentence.

I just talked to a nokia rep on the phone, they had a few yesterday, which sold out. But she said it could be back in soon, since it hasn’t “offically” launched until they take the coming soon page off the website.

Just tried this morning (10-November, 8:15 EST) with no luck. The rep indicated that she had had several calls about the 770 already in the last day or two. She wasn’t aware of any that had been available earlier this week and didn’t think they’d be available till at least next week.

Just got off the phone with a Nokia rep. She said they launched in the US on the 7th (yeah, right) and that they were on the web a day ago but sold out. Also, that it would be 2-4 weeks and that they don’t take back orders.

This is frustrating, as there is so much conflicting info coming out of the Nokia reps.

I went to the page and found it had changed from yesterday, there’s at least a “buy now” button there, but it doesn’t take your order, it just takes you email address. Oh well, better than nothing…but not much better. Hey Nokia, I *want* to give you my money! Take my freakin’ order already!

This is a poor execution of a product launch in my opinion. The web site status “expected soon” has been out there several months. I have doubts that the next U.S. launch date for planned distribution meets the demand. At least Nokia should be able to put out the pricing information, even if they are working out the other problems.
It is hard to believe that for a company, that launches several new models of cell phones with different standards globally, struggles to deliver portable Linux devices.

I am wondering why people are going crazy about the nokia 770 when the psp is $100 cheaper and plays games. What makes the nokia 770 so much better?
Thanks

The Sony PSP has a 480×272 resolution screen, in comparison the Nokia 700 has a 800×480 resolution screen. Less colors, though 16 million on the PSP and only 65k on the 770. But for web browsing resolution is more important.

Or notes is the 770 has doulbe the system memory as the PSP. (32MB vs 64MB)

The PSP has a faster processor with respect to clock rate (222mhz - 333mhz), where to 770 has the TI OM1710 which is clocked anywhere between (110mhz - 220mhz).

But becuase of the PSP using a MIPS R4000 processor, and the 770 using an IT ARM based processor.. Comparing them by thier clock rate doesn’t account to much.

But what I think attracts people to the 770 is that it is a linux machine. And all the free open source conotations that provides. Whereas the PSP is a locked down machine that doesn’t allow to do much more than play games.

If you just want to play games, the PSP is the choice. If you want to browse the web and run any kind of application you can conceive, then the 770 glows with suitability.

Conclusion… I WANT A 770 :D

I ordered one on their web site today. It said “sold-out” but shipping on the 17th, two days away.
