Nokia 770 made in…?

So where’s Nokia 770 made? Finland, or Nokialand? Nope. Taiwan, a place where everything electronic gets made? Try again. China, the manufacturing leader of the world? Nope. The FCC sticker shows Estonia as the country of production:

Nokia 770 - made in Estonia

Why is Estonia such a surprise? The home of Skype is a fitting place for a phone with only IP connectivity.

ps - I don’t live in Estonia, although I visited once.

I thought the guys who started Skype are from Denmark and Sweden and the company is registered in Luxembourg.

It’s not that surprising, Estonia has developed in leaps and bounds since independence from the USSR. It’s also just across the sea from Finland (in cold winters you could literally walk there if it wasn’t for the icebreakers on the shipping lanes).

Estonia has relatively cheap labour available and many nordic outsourcing manufacturers operate there, eg. Elcoteq.
