I was a bit slow to post this last week (family visiting), but Marcelo Oliveira left a comment here with a link to his demo of Doom running on Nokia 770, which seems to be running very fast (that’s to return to the earlier reviews of Nokia 770 being reported slow). “The game is running incredible fast at fullscreen”, Marcelo says. 770 Fan also has a post about it.
I’m not surprised doom is fast, it was on a 486 33MHz. Why should it be slow on a 200 MHz ARM processor?

The problem is : even with that processor it? kind of heavy to update the whole screen ( 800×480 ) at faster speeds. A lot of simple applications were running not that fast, so the natural thinking is : a more complex task will render pretty bad then.
For quake : we putted it to run on the real device and the speed was as low as it can get ( around 0.2 fps ) and I think for this processor it will be impossible to have it running ok. We’ll try to use the DSP to increase performance, but it could not solve the problem!
Check it out the new movie on my website:
