MaemoWiki has a document on becoming a root on Nokia 770.

Hi there,

can someone please help me with this?
I followed Meaemo’s intructions to gain root.
I thought it was very simple, since i’m a novice.
But now my 770 doesn’t recognize the MMC anymore, and typing “sudo” on the XTerm always gives me back this message:
“parse error in /etc/sudoers near line 21″

any idea?

Thanks

Becoming a root? I didn’t know you could BECOME A root… lol

Couldn’t you simply type “sudo su” to gain root privileges for that session? Or maybe “logout” then “login” and try to login as root?

Personally I can’t really help, since I don’t own a 770 (yet), but hope this helps a little (i guess).

Becoming A root… lol

add http://eko.one.pl/maemo to your download manager
then look for the package becomeroot install that
open up xterm and type sudo becomeroot

HAPPY HACKING!!!

So I tried it… I loaded in the osso xterm, and then the Dropbear. Guess what, if I type ssh it tells me: “-sh: ssh: not found”.
And because of Dropbear, I can’t load openssh!!
So the whole ‘howto’ is nothing but a big ole waste of time!
(that is on my 770 with os2006)

So, then I added “http://eko.one.pl/maemo” to application manager’s ‘application catalog’ with mistral and user. And yeah, I found becomeroot, and it installed okay. And then I loaded up xterm again and typed in “sudo becomeroot”. Guess what it asks? It asks “Password:” and if you reply, “rootme”! guess what it says?

It says, “Sorry, try again. Password:”
WHAT THE HE$€£#%(&*????????
